Vadim is an experienced product and engineering leader, accomplished scientist, inventor, and an author.
Vadim has over 14 years of experience managing product and software engineering teams in domains of machine learning and reasoning (military intelligence analysis), consumer experience and marketplaces (luxury segment), and financial technology (compliance and verification). Vadim is also an investor, a published research scientist with contributions to peer reviewed journals, a patent-holding inventor, and a textbook author.
Vadim graduated with honors from a prestigious ivy league university with multiple degrees in math, physics, and computer science. There he lead a research project bridging the academic fields of physics, astrophysics, and computer science. While in school, he joined his first startup as a software engineer where he filed his first patent for an algorithm he co-invented.
After graduation, Vadim moved to Silicon Valley to lead an information sciences research lab within a space systems company. There he was recognized for his work and quickly promoted to the position of research staff while being recognized as one of the top company employees. Vadim contributed to the company’s pioneering research in augmented reality and human-computer interaction filing several provisional patents and contributing his efforts to multidisciplinary research teams. The research efforts resulted in several US government research contracts awarded as well as numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. Vadim also contributed to several university textbooks as an author.
Despite his success, Vadim eventually left the corporate world to found several startup companies and later a venture capital investment firm with its own accelerator program which Vadim designed adopting his experience. He also became a mentor to young entrepreneurs, and traveling speaker.
Currently, Vadim is the director of product management for a technology company building the next generation platform for digital identity. He manages a team of engineers as well as partner relationships crucial to the success of the company.
Areas of Expertise
Vadim possesses a unique experience of managing both a research and development laboratory and a technical product supporting a business function. This unique combination helped him develop his own unique approach to management of technical products and engineering staff.
Perhaps the most important contribution to his companies was Vadim’s ability to simplify the complexity of the technical objectives and restructure technical teams in a way suggestive of small research and development teams working independently of each other. This approach coupled with an agile product development workflow resulted in delivery of products with superior quality and with shorter development lifecycle. This approach was proven to be especially effective for companies which must quickly iterate on a new business initiative or restructure as a result of significant injection of funds.
What Vadim could do for you
Vadim is passionate about helping others and passing on his knowledge in advisor and mentor capacity. Vadim is interested to work with a few selected companies struggling with the quality and speed of development of new product features and seeking to improve the operations of its product management functions.
Vadim will meet with the management team remotely to assess the challenges and determine if there is an opportunity to apply his proprietary methodology. If he decides to accept the project, Vadim will setup a project timeline which consists of 4 stages: assessment, replanning, deployment, and retrospective.
During the assessment stage, Vadim will work with the stakeholders of the client company to analyze the current structure of the company’s business functions, engineering teams, and their strategic imperatives. This stage will require close but brief cooperation with the client’s point of contact and can be performed remotely.
Replanning stage consists of development of the new approach with contribution from client’s point of contact. Deliverables of this stage include a collaborative report identifying shortcomings in the development approach and a specific action plan built around the following: technical and management team restructuring, formulation of product functions and alignment of team leadership and resources along those functions. Specific deliverables are settled upon with the client during the assessment stage. This stage can be performed remotely.
Upon acceptance of the action plan, the deployment stage is managed by the client and reviewed by Vadim periodically with input based on specific encountered challenges.
Retrospective stage is optional and is designed to review project’s accomplishments and ensure their long term effect.
The lifecycle of the project can last from 4 to 10 weeks depending on complexity of the project
In some instances, Vadim is willing to consider mentorship engagements with objectives of transferring of knowledge and expertise.
